Development of The Invisible Man reboot had been in development since 2006! David S. Goyer was attached to the project until 2011 but there was very little developement been 2006-2011. In 2016, the project was back in the works with Johnny Depp set to star and as part of Universal’s new Dark Universe. However, after The Mummy (2017) released to negative reviews (which would’ve kicked off the Dark Universe series), Universal decided to focus on standalone stories instead of creating a line-up of films with a shared universe. That’s when Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions stepped in!
Filming took pace between July and September 2019.
A spin-off film titled The Invisible Woman is in the works with Elizabeth Banks attached to to star, direct and produce. The spin-off will be a remake of the 1940 film of the same of name.
