When someone asks you “what’s your favourite scary movie?”, it’s only right to say none other than… Scream! It’s the horror franchise we’ve all loved since the 90s after all. And Neve Campbell has been a huge part of that from the very beginning, which makes us so excited for the fact that she’s in talks to return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 5!

That’s right, in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Campbell revealed she’s in early discussions with directing duo Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin to return to the slasher franchise, stating  “We’re having conversations – I have been approached about it. The timing’s a bit challenging because of COVID. You know, we only started the conversation maybe a month and a half ago, so it’s going to take some time to figure out how it’s all going to work out…. We’re negotiating, so we’ll see.”

She went on to say, “The two directors wrote me a very touching letter about Wes Craven and how he was such an inspiration to them and how they really want to honour him, and that meant a great, great deal to me. So we’ll see. Hopefully we can all see eye to eye on the project and find a way to make it. I’m so grateful for these films… I love Sidney Prescott. It’s always fun for me to step back in her shoes, and it’s always fun for me to see the cast come back and make one of these films again and try to make another good one.”

So, it sounds like Campbell will have some involvement in the next Scream instalment and we really hope it happens, because Scream just wouldn’t be the same without her!

Also on board, is screenwriter Kevin Williamson who has worked on all the Scream movies to date, and there’s a possibility David Arquette could make an appearance as he’s expressed interest in returning too, telling Entertainment Tonight’s Lauren Zima, “Oh it would be exciting! I love playing Dewey so I would always love to be a part of it.”!

It’s unclear as to when the film will be released due to the current COVID-19 crisis forcing productions to come to a halt, but the film is most definitely in the works. Here’s hoping Scream 5 will arrive, just in time for the 25th anniversary of the original film, which happens to be in 2021!
