News just in: Kristen Stewart is set to play Princess Diana in upcoming biopic ‘Spencer’!
That’s right, Stewart has signed on to portray The People’s Princess in Pablo Larraín’s upcoming Diana drama.
The film titled ‘Spencer’, will be set over a three-day period during a Christmas break at Sandringham Estate, of which Princess Diana realises her marriage to Prince Charles is taking a turn.
It won’t document Diana’s tragic 1997 death, but it will give a deeper glimpse at Diana’s family life during her marriage to Prince Charles, as well as the unconditional love she had for her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
The Chilean director will also serve as producer for the film. He told Deadline,
“I’ve always been intrigued and fascinated by the Royal Family and how things are in that culture, which we don’t have where I come from, Diana is such a powerful icon, where millions and millions of people, not just women, but many people around the world felt empathy toward her in her life. We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the Queen. She’s a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles.”
The drama will have its screenplay written by Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight and is expected to enter production early 2021.
