Dirty Dancing Stills Sequel

Filming on Hollywood productions might be halt at the moment, but there’s no stopping Lionsgate working on new features for the future!

It’s been 33 years since the original film was released and now news has come that a sequel to 1987’s Dirty Dancing is officially in the works! Jennifer Grey has also signed onto the project, set to reprise her role as Baby and serve as an executive producer – because nobody puts Baby in a corner – excuse the pun!

Lionsgate CEO Jeff Feltheimer confirmed the news to Deadline saying,

“It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company’s history,”.

Whilst this won’t be the first follow-up to the timeless 1987 classic, this will be the first sequel in the series to see Grey return as Frances “Baby” Houseman. After the original film’s $200 million success at the box-office, a prequel titled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights followed in 2004 and saw Patrick Swayze reprise his role as Johnny Castle, but without Jennifer Grey by his side.

In 2017, Lionsgate released a three-hour, direct-to-television remake of Dirty Dancing (1987) which was directed by Wayne Blair and had Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes starring as the titular characters.

Whilst there’s no news on when the sequel will be released, we have no doubt that we’ll have the time of our lives watching it!
