Just as we were getting closer to the release of Avatar 2, the sequel has been delayed by an entire year due to COVID-19 bringing Hollywood productions to a halt.
James Cameron announced that the sequel to Avatar has been pushed back, meaning it won’t be in cinemas until at least December 2022 (if we’re lucky!). The director tweeted to his followers this week that production has not been able to resume safely amidst social distancing guidelines.

The second instalment was originally slated for a December 2021 release with Avatar 3, 4 and 5 following in December 2023, December 2025 and December 2027 respectively. But the new move has ultimately pushed back all the releases so the new calendar is (currently) looking like this:
Avatar 2 β December 16, 2022
Avatar 3 β December 20, 2024
Avatar 4 β December 18, 2026
Avatar 5 β December 22, 2028
Since the sequels have already been twelve years in the making, we suppose we can wait another year – we’re sure its going to be worth the full cinematic experience! After all, Cameron did promise what the crew “bring to cinemas will deliver”!
