Key Facts

  • Finding Dory was officially announced by Ellen DeGeneres in 2013. She made the announcement on her talk show after she campaigned for Pixar to make a sequel to Finding Nemo.
  • The film’s original ending was altered after Pixar executives watched the 2013 documentary Blackfish. The original ending was a scene set in a marine wildlife park similar to Sea-World but after negative publicity followed the release of Blackfish, Pixar changed the ending giving the mammals and fish to have an option to leave the marine park if they wanted to.
  • The film is set one year after Finding Nemo despite the thirteen year gap between the two films!
  • In the post-credits scene, the Tank Gang (previously from Finding Nemo) make their way to California still in their plastic bags and become part of the Marine Biology Institute.
  • Against its $200 million budget, Finding Dory has made $228.5 million at the worldwide box office so far!
