Tom Cruise put on a fat suit and turned into Les Grossman for 2008’s Tropic Thunder. One popular clip from the film is during the post credits scenes where Cruise dances. He even turned into his character for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards where he took the stage next to Jennifer Lopez!


Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulgar

Johnny Depp turned into real life Irish-American mobster Whitey Bulger for Black Mass. Not only was he unrecognisable but he even put on an incredible Irish accent throughout the film!


Naomi Watts as Diana

When Naomi Watts took on the challenging role to play Princess Diana in the biopic that followed the last two years of her life, it opened our eyes after we saw the resemblance she had with the Princess herself! The film had an unsuccessful run at the box office and Naomi herself has stated “there were problems with the film and it ended up taking a direction” that was one she was not hoping for.


Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort

Ralph Fiennes played the villainous Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter Franchise and was absolutely unrecognisable! Known to the wizarding world as He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, Fiennes’ portrayal of Voldemort made him one of our most favourite but terrifying characters in the Harry Potter series.

John Travolta not only put on a fat suit for the role of Edna Turnblad but he also turned into a woman in 2007’s Hairspray! Having Travolta play the character of Edna sticks to the original 1988 film when drag queen Divine portrayed her.

Meryl Streep transformed into The Witch in the 2014 musical Into the Woods. Meryl has said she was offered 3 witch roles in one year when she turned 40 and never accepted the wicked offer until now! 


Jim Carrey as The Mask

Jim Carrey put on a Green mask for the 1994 film based on the Dark Horse Comics. Fun fact: Jim Carrey was paid $450,000 for the film which is said to be a bargain for New Line Cinema at the time!


Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe

Michelle Williams turned into Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe in 2011’s My Week with Marilyn. The resemblance Williams shared with Marilyn and for her outstanding performance gave her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture.

When Anne Hathaway became the next heir to the throne in Genovia it meant she had to transform from an average teenager to a Royal Princess. Her transformation included a change in her appearance too!

Nicole Kidman took on 3 hours of makeup a day to transform into Virginia Woolf for The Hours. Not only is that dedication for her but the makeup artists had some serious impact in making her look exactly the same everyday whilst filming took place!

Gwyneth Paltrow is another star to put on a fat suit for a role. She played Rosemary Shanahan in 2001’s Shallow Hal and starred alongside Jack Black.

Cate Blanchett covered up her blonde locks to portray Jude Quinn in I’m Not There – a film inspired by the life of musician Bob Dylan. Her transformation gave her a leather jacket, shades, a cigar and a curly brown wig for her portrayal.
