Blockbusters and the epic returns of well-loved favourite film franchises soared at the box office in 2015.
So what were the top films at the UK box office this year?According to the most up-to-date statistics from the BFI research and statistic unit, which focuses on January to September, the highest grossing film released during this period was Jurassic World, taking over £64 million at the box office.
Overall, it was a fantastic period for UK cinemas as cinema admissions during these three quarters were over 122 million; seven per cent higher than in 2014.
The largest increase in cinema attendance was in June and July due to the release of Jurassic World, Inside Out and Minions. Earlier in the year admissions were high for the Fast&Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
These statistics obviously don’t reflect the latter part of the year when Spectre and Star Wars: The Force Awakens both smashed figures at the UK box office. (The BFI will release the updated 2015 report at the end of this month).
Worldwide, the top ten grossing films of 2015 are:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation
The Hunger Games-Mockingjay Part 2
