13 Films Turning 10 Years Old In 2017


With 2017 just around the corner and a number of blockbusters set to be released, we thought we’d go back in time and recap the best releases of 2007 which FYI was a whole DECADE ago! Yeah, let’s not remind ourselves of how young we all were back then and just how old we are now! 



1. Transformers

It’s hard to believe the first motion picture in the Transformers series was released in 2007 when it seems like just yesterday! After the worldwide success of the first instalment, three more box office hits followed with the fifth film on its way in 2017!


2. Shrek the Third

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz returned for the third Shrek film in 2007. Shrek the Third grossed $799 million worldwide making a fourth instalment follow in 2010, but it’s not over for Shrek and the gang yet as you can expect to see them arrive on the big screen again in 2019!


3. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is 2007’s highest grossing film with the action having earnt $963.4 million at the box office. At World’s End is the third instalment in the series and the fifth film titled ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ is expected to hit cinemas in 2017 – 10 years after the first film!


4. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Rise of the Silver Surfer is a sequel to 2005’s Fantastic Four. The film earned $289 million against its $130 million budget at starred Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffud, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis.


5. Ratatouille

Pixar animation Ratatouille which follows ambitious rat Remy trying to turn his dreams of becoming a cook into a reality was released Summer of 2007! The film made $620.7 million worldwide and even won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.


6. Hairspray

2007’s Hairspray starring Zac Efron, Queen Latifah and John Travolta is the second film adaptation of the musical and based on the 2002 Broadway show! Against its $75 million budget, the smash hit made $202.5 million around the world.


7. Rush Hour 3

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker’s third Rush Hour comedy was released August 2007. In 2016, a TV Series based on the franchise began airing but was cancelled after just one season.


8. The Game Plan

Dwayne Johnson’s The Game Plan is still one of our favourite movies after all these years! The sports comedy made $146.6 million against its $22 million budget and continued to kick off Johnson’s film career!


9. Alvin and the Chipmunks

Can you believe Alvin, Simon and Theodore were first introduced to us 10 years ago when the fourth film came out in 2015?! Let’s not reminisce to how young we all are were when the Chipmunks rose to fame and remind ourselves of how old we are now!


10. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

The fifth instalment in the Harry Potter franchise was the fifth highest grossing film in 2007 earning an amazing $939.9 million worldwide! Three films followed to finalise the Harry Potter series but in 2016 J.K. Rowling allowed us to return to the wizarding world with the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the cinematic release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.


11. I Am Legend

I Am Legend made Will Smith the last man on Earth in 2007’s post-apocalyptic action and was the seventh highest grossing film that year. Following the success of the film, there were talks of a prequel/sequel back in 2012 but there have been no further plans for future releases since.


12. Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man 3 was the last Spider-Man film to star Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. When the trilogy came to an end, a reboot titled The Amazing Spider-Man followed in 2012. After just 2 films, Andrew Garfield retired the superhero role and Marvel Studios collaborated with Sony Pictures to have Spider-Man star in The Avengers! Tom Holland made his first appearance as Spidey in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. The first solo film starring Holland will be released in 2019 and is titled ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.


13. Ocean’s Thirteen

Ocean’s Thirteen is the third and final film in the Ocean’s trilogy. In 2016 an all-female remake starring Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock and Rihanna was announced and titled Ocean’s Eight, expected in 2018.
